While it seems a bit petty to discuss the death of a human in terms of the effect it had on a music festival, Suicide might’ve been the single most buzzed about band performing at Desert Daze 2016. Desert Daze rose to the immense challenge of filling the massive and gaping hole that was left in the wake of the death of Alan Vega by adding King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, METZ and Godspeed You! There has been much anticipation and excitement around the new “The Muggers” moniker attached to his name on the upcoming tour schedule. It was revealed Tuesday that along with regular bassist, Mikal Cronin, there will be a few other familiar faces on stage with Ty Segall on his upcoming tour. Emmet Kelly of The Cairo Gang on lead guitar, Wand singer Cory Hanson on Keyboard, Evan Burrows of Wand on Drums, and Kyle Thomas of King Tuff on second guitar. This will be the band touring with Ty Segall during the upcoming tour supporting the new “Emotional Mugger” album that is dropping January 22nd. On January 9th at The Teragram Ballroom, the fine folks from Moon Block are bringing us the Rock and Roll Circus. The night features performances by Fever the Ghost, Morgan Delt, Vinyl Williams, Hott MT and JJUUJJUU. There will be no switchover times between bands but instead, a continuous stream of rock and roll emanating from the stage of the Teragram Ballroom. We’re not quite sure about the mechanics of it all but we are looking forward to having our faces melted while the bands play hot potato with their guitars! The Moon Block collective has brought us epic festivals such as Moon Block Party and Desert Daze. Dick Dale is singlehandedly responsible for the entire genre of surf rock. With the HUGE resurgence of the style that is taking place in garages all over the world, it’s important to know it’s roots. Through the 50’s to the present day, his playing is so unique and loud that Leo Fender worked to develop the first ever 100 watt amplifier named the Fender Dual Showman Amp, made specifically for Dick Dale, “The King of Surf Guitar”. At 78 years old, Dick Dale must keep playing shows or he’ll die; literally. In a recent July 29th interview with the Pittsburgh City Paper, Dick Dale revealed that he continues to tour aggressively to “pay for medical patches and pouches” that help him not only live more comfortably after two bouts of rectal cancer, renal failure and severely damaged vertebrae but to get enough of the medical supplies that allow him to sustain his life. That doesn’t stop Dick Dale from shredding that Fender Stratocaster more viciously than anyone on planet earth.
