Heaven or Coachella?: Django Django And Tank And The Bangas At The Fonda

Much like the eye of a tropical storm, Los Angeles enjoyed a few days of eerie tranquility in the weekdays between the first and second weekend of Coachella. If you don’t have the patience to deal with drunk teenagers and a few thousand dollars worth of disposable income to make your way out to Indio for one of the two festival weekends, it’s easy to succumb to the gnawing fear of missing out. Knowing all your favorite artists and even more new artists you didn’t know you would love are playing so tantalizingly close to you but you’re poor, impatient or maybe just disinterested. As a Coachella virgin but an avid adversary of frivolous spending, the outdoors and idiots, I take comfort in the knowledge that every act worth seeing will roll through Los Angeles in this quiet span of five days between the conclusion of the first week and the incitation of the second. related content: Between Coachella, Brazilian Boogarins At The Echo With the promise of a rousing performance from Django Django, a staple in the indie pop scene since time immemorial. Formed in 2009, Django Django has been making the festival circuit and touring internationally and have

Django Django at The Constellation Room

Django Django Fit Their Big Sound Into The Constellation Room

To state that the self titled, debut album by Django Django was a success would be an understatement. It was one of my favorites of 2012. I saw them live for the first time at a sold out show at The Fonda Theatre in Hollywood in 2013. It was their first show in Los Angeles and the venue was bursting with a capacity crowd. Flash forward to 2015 and a valiant effort at a follow up called, Born Under Saturn. Nowhere near as powerful as their first release but still, some great tracks on the new album. With a previous engagement the night of their Thursday night show at the El Rey in Los Angeles, I decided Django Django were worth the drive down to Orange County to check them out at The Observatory. The night was full of surprises. Surprise 1: Django Django were playing in the smaller, low capacity room inside the Observatory called the Constellation Room. How is it possible that a band with one of the best albums of just a few years ago is not playing the biggest stage at The Observatory? I was happy for myself and the other patrons that we would be

Django Django- First Light (art)

Stream Django Django’s first new work in almost 3 years.

It’s been almost 3 years since Django Django released their self titled album on January 30th, 2012.  They took the world by storm with their cosmic, electro-surf sound.  We’ve been wondering what happened to them for the past year and now we have something amazing to look forward to. Django Django has just made their first new work in 3 years available to stream and I can honestly say that good things like this are worth waiting for. This track, “First Light”, is true to the very finely crafted and produced form that made them an instant breakout obsession on their first LP.  David Maclean (drummer/producer) and Vincent Neff (singer/guitarist) create some magic with the rest of the band in the form of dreamy and silky vocal harmonies, along with amazingly produced and completely original musical arrangements.
