Sex Cells and We’re Buying- somewhere south of Hollywood Blvd

Somewhere in the heart of Hollywood on Wilcox, in a club/venue I have never entered before, Sex Cells re-emerged from it’s hiatus hole, to return to us a provocative buffet of fetish culture, avant-garde/smutty art, and self-expression.  Out of the birth canal of Danny Fuentes, the L.A raised freak show turned ambassador and the individual behind Lethal Amounts gallery (but not in the alley).  Sex Cells transcends traditional club nights, offering a haven for those who revel in the unconventional but fiercely protective against any potential spectators looking for a freak show or a glimpse of t&a+D.

Danny Fuentes: the PT Barnum of rare humans but unlike that circus, exploitation is consensual.

Lethal Amounts has long been a stalwart advocate for counterculture. If Lethal Amounts had any over arching theme, it would be that. Fuentes has curated exhibitions that delve into once taboo subjects in the mainstream- satanic rituals and serial killers and of course, forwarding and celebrating all the divine, aesthetic and historical culture that has brought the queer community to it’s current paradigm all across the world .  This is our vanilla.  His commitment to showcasing the extremes of human experience is evident in the gallery’s diverse array of artists, many of whom challenge societal norms and celebrate nonconformity.

A Night Where Fetish Meets Freedom

Sex Cells is more than just a party; it’s an immersive experience where fetish fashion, performance art, and mostly dark wave/synth pop bangers pump through the speakers. Bring your latex, bring your leather, bring your lace… you don’t HAVE to have a treasure chest of toys and a closet full of secrets to bring into the light to come… but leave the kink shaming at home.  Most everyone there is just there to dance and to party and to blow off steam… just like the normies.

In past installments, The atmosphere has been electric, with live performances that blur the lines between art and provocation. This past Saturday, May 3rd was more like a family reunion. The focus was more on each other than the music or dancing. I’m not sure if Danny was dipping his toe back in his Cell in this installment, but now that he has, we urge him to completely submerge himself. To resume in his drive in bringing the Los Angeles club scene something it’s rately seen before- a night in which you don’t know what to expect.

Creating a Safe Space for the Unconventional

At its core, Sex Cells is about community. In the past, anything resembling Sex Cells would have resided in today’s equivalent of the dark web. People that had to live this part of their life in the dark, came to places like this to bring it into the black light. Now the biggest chore is not turning this final boss of fetish clubs into a tourist destination. Doesn’t sound very inclusive, I know. These are my thots, not the opinion of the club.

As Sex Cells continues to evolve, it remains steadfast in its mission to challenge the status quo and provide a platform for voices that often go unheard. Through the lens of fetish and the embrace of the avant-garde, it stands as a testament to the power of art and community in redefining the boundaries of nightlife.

For those seeking an experience that defies convention and celebrates the beauty of the bizarre, Sex Cells awaits—a night where the only rule is to be unapologetically yourself.
