Avant-Garde Headbanging with The Armed at The Roxy
Seeing The Armed at The Roxy on September 20, 2025 was not just a whim- for me it was a necessity. Whenever the Armed play in Los Angeles, I make it a point to attend. Their concerts feel like rare glimpses into a future world. With their latest tour stop supported by Prostitute, another heavy and unpredictable band, I wanted to break down not only the performance but also why The Armed matter so deeply and why their most recent album, THE FUTURE IS HERE AND EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE DESTROYED, truly rules. related: One Friday Night In Hell- Show Me The Body and Twitching Tongues at The Regent The Armed have become my favorite modern band. I am not sure how it happened; I can’t always control what I gravitate toward. Perhaps they filled the vacuum left by The Dillinger Escape Plan, a band whose live shows once stood as the gold standard for ferocity and unpredictability. Perhaps they were the only group writing anthems with lyrics powerful enough to resonate like “Sport of Form” off Perfect Saviors, my favorite album of 2023. That track, which ends with a peaking sing-along verse of “Doesn’t Anyone Even Know You? Does

Model/Actriz at The Roxy: A Queer Sermon in Noise Rock
I first stumbled into the world of Model/Actriz by accident. It was a few years back at Sound & Fury Fest, and I was assigned to shoot them. I didn’t know their name, didn’t know the music, didn’t know what I was about to walk into. I just knew I had a lens in my hand and a job to do. What I got instead was a conversion. Right out the gate, they hit the stage with a mix of post-punk, industrial noise-rock, and pure unfiltered gay energy. The kind that doesn’t ask for permission. The kind that vogues and spits and bleeds. Cole Haden—Model/Actriz’s frontman and spiritual conjurer—was bouncing across the stage like a punk rock ballerina. Limbs flying, chest heaving, eyes wild. And then, mid-set, he leapt into the crowd and performed most of the set among us, singing to our faces, brushing against shoulders, dissolving the barrier between performer and observer in a way I hadn’t seen since… ever. That show stuck with me. And like all things that feel a little too intense to be real, I wondered if I’d built it up in my head over time. Cut to last night at the Roxy Theatre

Photo Recap: Viagra Boys at the Roxy
One of Coachella’s most anticipated imports has to be Viagra Boys. All the way from Sweden, these tattooed and beer-bellied punk freaks turn any show into a wild affair. There was sweat, booze, and probably other human fluids all over the Roxy by the time this chaotic banger of a show was finished. Southern California had been waiting for awhile to see these guys again, the last time they showed up around these parts was for Desert Daze 2019. This time, as they take their punk rodeo around the country, they brought local bright youngsters Kills Birds along for the ride. We’ve got amazing picture documenting the whole affair. Check these babies out. Photos by: Albert Licano Viagra Boys Kills Birds

Analysis of a Slavic Heart: Molchat Doma at the Roxy
It is my personal mission to spread the creed of Molchat Doma far and wide across the So-Cal internet airwaves. I feel so compelled because like me, these three men are of Slavic descent, them from Belarus and myself, the child of Russian-Ukrainian immigrants. More than that though, my father was a Ukrainian musician that immigrated to America, hoping to make it in the music industry. He never accomplished this dream but Molchat Doma’s success is a vicarious victory. If they can break out through the (former) iron curtain and into the international mainstream to play Coachella then it’s almost like they fulfilled my father’s dream and so, I will do whatever I can to uplift these three dreamers. related content: Super Saiyan Sasami At The Teragram Ballroom My background doesn’t just make me empathize with and root for this band, it helps me understand them. I understand what elements make a Slavic heart and the textures of Slavic emotion. Much of this is hard to put into words but for the length of this article, I will do my best. Eastern Europeans feel melodrama in a way Americans simply don’t, at least not on the surface. We might be

How to Wage Class Warfare: D.O.A. at the Roxy
“Listen to your elders”, though punk rock is eternally young, the timeless adage applies to this rebel art form. Since D.O.A.‘s groundbreaking 2nd album, Hardcore ’81, the genre they helped create has gone through many evolutions and branching-offs until it doesn’t quite resemble its original sonic or thematic mold. Hardcore doesn’t need to change their sounds, but it wouldn’t hurt to listen to Godfather punk bands like D.O.A. more, not just to be inspired by that original, tested and proven sound, but to relearn what the true ethos and political/existential stance punk is supposed to stand for. related content: Sacred Vibration: Guided By Voices At Teragram The moment D.O.A. broke into “Class War”, off the band’s third album, War on 45, introducing the song by saying “the only war worth fighting is a class war” I knew all bets were off. D.O.A. and bands from their era never failed to mince words, opting to make songs with straight forward messaging, striking metaphor, ruthless aggression and artistic bravery that also get the party and pit going full speed. Hardcore these days is much more interested in brutality. There’s nothing wrong with that but in times like these when we can’t quite

Photo Recap: Jasiah and $not at the Roxy Theatre
A few of hip hop’s most talented up and coming rappers came together to turn the Roxy upside down with one of the hottest, sweatiest, most chaotic trap shows you could ever see. Jasiah and $not have collaborated together on a few tracks, so this tour was a match made in heaven because rarely do you see hip hop artists with this much chemistry. This was an especially cool show because of the guests that joined the mc’s on stage including hip hop’s greatest punk patron, Travis Barker, as well as Nascar Aloe, both of which took the vibe over the top. Check out our photos of this insane show. Photos by: Jessica Moncrief $not Jasiah

Photo Recap: Baby Keem at the Roxy
Not even twenty years old yet, Baby Keem is already blowing up and making waves on the Soundcloud scene. Hip Hop ain’t ready for what this Las Vegas youth has to offer. Already, he’s had videos directed by Shia LaBeouf and been featured on the Black Panther soundtrack with songwriting credits. His latest project, Die For My Bitch has already been accumulating hype and brought him to The Roxy to perform a headlining show. We sent our official hip hop photographer to the show to get the scoop. Check out the pics below! Photos by: Rodney Campos
