Video Premiere: ZOOLUXX’s “WEIRDOS”

So r u still at home chillin? Have we arrived in a time where so called weirdos ain’t supposed to be cool in the modern day plague era anymore? Seeing a future far away from social distance and cognitive dissonance.  Reminiscent of true urban instrumental playa’s playin’ funky tripped out music from a retro-cassette deck, sporting clinical hazmat suits in mid-apocalyptic plague-zone mode; floating around in a downward spiral into the bottom of the once wiley westcoast streets of party wild LA… And all this without earphones too!  After quarantine, still skating through strange bio-hazardous, chemically loud, semi-viral beats that blow screeching through non synthetic (sunthetic?) programs. Aside the white walls of corporate industry warehouse branches, in the bushes admist the machine painted gmo leaves; Only not really smelling, but reminding the funky-attitudinal fear based flowers that perhaps they are just hookers for the bees.  In N95’s going outside of the frosty invisible perimeters, inside such an empty city of our icy toxic surreality, towards the self reliant resemblance of the re-humanization of an anti-social weirdo population of non-organic communication; No jive talk virus-spitting venom here! Capturing the vacancy of ones outer-personal space/the empty environmental zoning/fish back in the water

Video Premiere: ZOOLUXX – “Anything & Everything” (LIVE) feat. Angelo Moore

ZOOLUXX has just released a new live video of their song “Anything & Everything” from a performance at The Satellite that features a saxophone solo from legendary ska artist and Fishbone frontman, Angelo Moore. The video was shot and edited by filmmaker and skate videographer Mike Manzoori. The funky swagger and psychedelic riffing that people have come to love from ZOOLUXX is in full effect in this video with supernaturally beautiful videography and editing to really drive the live experience of this band home. I can’t help but imagine 70’s exploitation films whenever I listen to ZOOLUXX but this song sets the dream in space. ZOOLUXX’s next show is at the Satellite for their EP release party on June 23rd with Oozelles and Stonechild. Tickets on sale now, you can buy them here.

New Name, New Video – ZOOLUXX (Formerly Solar Sons) Release “Finally Be”

For years, ZOOLUXX, formerly known as Solar Sons, has been the quintessential soundtrack for night’s out in Los Angeles. From their residency at Good Times at Davey Wayne’s to being a fixture in all the best underground house parties, everybody in L.A. knows these guys. You’ve thrown back beers to their music, hooked up to their music, danced to their music, and now, with a new name and an EP produced by legendary saxophonist Karl Denson, they’re stepping into a new era in their musical tenure. Denson, who’s played with everyone from The Rolling Stones to Lenny Kravitz, produced ZOOLUXX’s 2017 debut EP and their single “Finally Be”. ZOOLUXX has always had the uncanny ability to transport any room they play straight into boogie town. With awesome grooves and psychedelic landscapes, the band makes every party feel like a funky sci-fi exploitation movie. Consisting of vocalist and guitarist Troy Vincent, bassist Ned Casual, percussionist Bertie Paradise, and drummer Princess Frank, each member contributes to a sound that is infectious, magnetic, and undeniably primal at its core. All thought is lost to dance when a ZOOLUXX tune grabs you and has its way with your feet. I liken ZOOLUXX’s place in

Plasmic

Video Premiere: Plasmic “Validation Nation” Janky Smooth Exclusive

Ever since she tore the house down at El Rey for Sex Cells’ Divine Ball, we here at Janky Smooth have developed a deep fondness for the Orange County sparkle-queen known as Plasmic. Her take on pop brings to mind greats from Cyndi Lauper to Ariel Pink to Devo and by the sound of her latest music video for “Validation Nation” it seems she’s got just as much style as those greats but perhaps even more substance and depth. It’s so damn refreshing to hear good pop songwriting in 2018. related content: Sex Cells’ Divine Ball At El Rey: The Filthiest People On Earth With imagery that harkens the upbringings of so many American girls, the video feels like if Harmony Korine directed a Tonya Harding movie. With music that has just as much jazzy swagger in the vocals as dream pop and electro-glitter-punk trash in the production, the song feels like a beautiful monster of sorts and from the song’s main lyric: “I don’t want to be a person anymore“, this might be exactly what Plasmic’s going for. The image of her swiveling on one figure skate while holding her keyboard in slow motion, as her hot-pink hair flows

Thee MVPs

Video Premiere: Thee MVPs “US Airways” Exclusively at Janky Smooth

Thee MVPs have toured coast to coast, stopping off at SXSW to play with Janky garage favorites like Meatbodies, Dead Meadow, and Night Beats. Director Max Horn, whose worked previously with Frank Carter And The Rattlesnakes, was able to capture the kinetic intensity of Thee MVPs being their most vivid and wild selves in this video premiere of the track “US Airways” from the short film Receiver. Check it out… Recorded across the pond in a big room at Brighton Electric studios, Thee MVPs tear the house down with this jammer that they usually bust out to close sets with, sometimes taking the song to a frenzied 12 minute session live. For fans of King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard and Thee Oh Sees, Thee MVPs play garage and psych rock from an English lens that may resemble the same transformation of the blues through bands like the Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin. So give this groovy video a peep and make sure to keep your eyes open for Receiver which will be released October 13th on Greenway and as a tape through Burger Records. Cheers!
