OC did it all for the Nookie: Musink Tattoo Convention & Music Fest 2019

At the beginning of the year, I foresaw the resurgence of nu metal. Long dismissed and derided as one of the most cringe-worthy, toxic, and talentless genres of all time, it would turn out the place it held in the hearts of elder millennials never faded away as they grew up. Bands like Korn, Slipknot, and Deftones have maintained a place at the top of the mountain as bands that can always draw big crowds but Limp Bizkit still seems like an outsider among them even though back in the day, they were arguably the biggest of those bands. Musink 2019 would blow the flood gates open and give nu metal the retribution people were silently begging for. Limp Bizkit would headline Day 2 and signal to all the haters that the Bizkit is back. That same week, LB announced a surprise show at the Troubadour for only 3 dollars. Those that were in attendance know Limp Bizkit put on what was without question, love them or hate them, a legendary performance. Featuring covers of the Who, Nirvana, and Journey with guests such a Billy Corgan, Marilyn Manson, and Machine Gun Kelly, the show was so raucous one fan even jumped from

Holy shit… Oh, man… we got two tickets to Musink Music Festival & Tattoo Convention to giveaway… So stoked. Who will be the lucky winner to see Limp Bizkit for free??? It’s killing me just thinking about it. I’m dying from the anticipation. The nookie is not the only reason for attending this festival though. On night 1 we get a slew of hardcore bands playing from Bleeding Through, to Sick of it All, Hatebreed, and closing out with Suicidal Tendencies, the crossover band of our time. Night 2 has LB headlining but all the bands supporting are sure to have killer sets like Travis Barker, Ho99o9, and special guests which I can only guess will be filled with exciting surprises of the year. I have no idea who to expect and I love it. The final day closes with punk from start to finish. I can’t wait to see Flag and the Dead Kennedys, I’m over the Jello elitism. T.S.O.L. at The Observatory

TSOL Gig New Material, Movie, Support Tiger Army, Headline The Dwarves

The importance and relevance of T.S.O.L. hasn’t diminished one bit after 39 years of music through thick and thin, break ups and reunions. On February 4th, liberty’s true sons held their record release show for The Trigger Complex at the Observatory with support from Dwarves. This was a big night for Jack Grisham because he was also screening his short film Code Blue which he co-directed with Susan Dynner and was financed by fans through a kickstarter campaign. Code Blue is about a high school misfit who scores with the high school hottie only to prematurely ejaculate his way into becoming an even bigger outcast after she shames him on social media. A few days later, the hottie dies and our hero is threatened by his mother with enrollment into military school. So, he runs away to the morgue and finds the girl he never satisfied. He makes love to her corpse, imagining that she’s enjoying him, only to be interrupted by cock-blocking cops. The film ends with our hero in a mental institution. His cellmate says “fuck the police” and our hero replies “only if they’re dead.” Kim Fowley once aptly described punk music as B-movies on record.  Well,

Punk Rock Bowling 2015 and What Is Punk Rock, Poser?

Words: Danny Baraz Photos: Taylor Wong The word punk is one that is thrown around and has many different uses. It can be used as an adjective or a verb. There has been much discussion around it’s usage as an adjective to describe music and people. It has sparked passionate and sometimes violent debate. The spirit behind what the word actually means has existed since time itself and once the word became marketable and defined by a specific sound, the word changed from describing a frame of mind and into describing a genre… or… a product, if you will. And there are very few individuals or businessmen that handle the legacy of this product better than Mark and Shawn Stern at BYO Records, specifically through their record label and of course, the annual summit called Punk Rock Bowling.   Very few statements sound sillier than someone stating “That’s not punk”. Because once punk has been defined through a specific paradigm, it ceases to be the thing that it was when Iggy first bent over backwards or Darby first watched people move in a circle or Joey put on his first leather jacket. The cultural resistance that spawned the punk scene stops

Punk Rock Bowling 2015 Deep Thoughts and Sideshows

Punk Rock Bowling is starting to attract almost as many side gigs as Coachella. From L.A. to Las Vegas, bands both playing the official festival and club shows and bands that weren’t invited to this year’s festivities are all booking as many gigs as they can to take advantage of the busiest season in Punk Rock.  See the list of shows (below) across two states that seem to be the spawn of the biggest punk rock event in the country, maybe the world. We asked some of your favorite punks and some young guns to talk about their experiences at Punk Rock Bowling. Jack Grisham- TSOL How many times have you attended/played Punk Rock Bowling? The Damned and T.S.O.L at Irving Plaza Made Halloween in the City Bearable

Halloween. Sorry but it just is not my favorite holiday. Well, not since I was 12. However, Halloween in New York Fucking City at Irving FuckingPlaza, featuring the likes of The Briefs, T.S.O.L. and The Damned was a treat, rather than a trick. (yes, i know -shut the hell up).  They all delivered in typical fashion. The Briefs donned friendly Casper sheets to start a tight, fast and loud set from start to finish, which got this somewhat tame Manhattan crowd mobile. By the time TSOL got started, “Banana girl” and “Chicken Suit Dude” were in full swing.  Yes, that was the catalog of mosh proof costumes that I witnessed and i think they worked.  One gal i met got an elbow to the forehead and it was a good one.  She did not enjoy the same insulation as the banana and the chicken and her lack of Halloween spirit ultimately led to her demise. TSOL live is always awesome and never complete without front man, Jack Grisham’s standup comedy action–“People are throwing candy on stage..my mother always tells me not to eat anything like this and i always listen to my mom–she pays my bills..” New drummer Matt Rainwater
