The second night of Ty Segall‘s MASSIVE 10 week residency at The Teragram Ballroom was a perfect juxtaposition of the now classic, simple songwriting and garage riffs of 2010 paired with the refined and experimental material of a maturing artist. related content: Ty Segall & The Freedom Band Blows Minds At Secret Show At The Griffin Backed by an ensemble of familiar LA musicians performing as The Freedom Band, Ty and Co. set the evening in motion with a blazing rendition of the entirety of the recently released album First Taste. Opening a show for a band like Amyl and The Sniffers seems like it could be somewhat intimidating, but adding a legend like Alice Bag to the bill seems like it could make it downright terrifying, however that didn’t seem to be the case with Moss! The quartet of young musicians made their way to the stage first. There was an uncomfortable silence for a few minutes before their set started and the smaller crowd of obvious fans and curious early birds that had trickled in, stood staring blankly at the stage waiting for Moss! to start performing. It wasn’t long before these guys would prove the reason why they were added to this insane bill. related content: Surf & Sniff: Amyl & The Sniffers At Soda Bar Moss! is no 3 chord act. While they embody everything that we all love energetically and stylistically about Punk, their arrangements are much more intricate varying from bluesy and surfy to punchy and aggressive and even melodic at times. It’s been three years since Prince left this planet but his impact still resonates with so many people. For everything he’s done as a mega talent, genius songwriter, and iconic performer, he’s created a lasting imprint on music that can neither be denied nor forgotten. Whether man or woman, Prince made music that shook you to your core and made you dance the night away, providing the soundtrack for some of life’s most important moments. His birthday, June 7th, was only days before Princess’ return to Los Angels for a sold out show at the Teragram ballroom. For those of you unfamiliar, Princess is the ultimate Prince cover band made up of SNL’s Maya Rudolph and singer/songwriter Gretchen Lieberum. The duo’s charisma, humor, and knowledge of all things Prince make them the best party hosts you could ever imagine and so, it’s no wonder this show sells out every time. The impact of Wax Trax! Records cannot be understated. Without this small, independent Chicago-based record label, dance music as we know it would be a very different entity. To celebrate the record label’s legacy and Industrial music in general (the genre can’t be divorced from the label), Vans threw a special documentary screening of Industrial Accident, speaking panel, and concert, featuring the landmark of the record label, Ministry, playing an old school set at the Teragram Ballroom. related content: Front 242 And Severed Heads Bring Classic Industrial To The Regent Theater I highly recommend Industrial Accident: The Story of Wax Trax! Don’t Fear the Weird: Fidlar’s Record Release at Teragram

Despite 2019 being the 10th anniversary of Fidlar‘s existence, I first heard the band around two years ago while on tour (late to the game, I know.) We were driving somewhere through the Carolinas in a rattling van formerly used to shuttle the homeless out of LA and all six of us were hungover as hell. With four of the bandmates passed out in the back, I was riding shotgun and taking in the sights while my friend that was driving cued up Fidlar’s 2015 record Too and began singing along in that kind of raspy voice you have after a long night out. Something about the tone of that album – the wistfulness, pacing, and honesty about facing adulthood resonated perfectly with the moment.
