Aquadolls And Friends Preview Summer At Teragram Ballroom

Every show I go to I get so nervous because people can never seem to find my name on the press list. I actually made it in before the first band played so it saved me a lot of work from pushing to get a good spot. It was no surprise that The Teragram Ballroom started off with a small crowd. Jurassic Shark is honestly an underrated band; layers of delay and reverb always does it for me. Whoever wasn’t there soon enough, -or at all, missed out on catchy riffs and an up and coming band to watch out for. So Many Wizards performed soon after with their dreamy, indie sounds that pleased the crowd. Lead singer/songwriter Nima K has a knack with riff and melody and their set was marvelous. Summer Twins followed So Many Wizards and they were the reason I had come. Teragram was their first show back home from their tour across the country. The sister’s, Chelsea (vocals/guitar) and Justine’s (drums) 50s and 60s influence, give the band their vintage vibe, from the band itself to their clothing. Dum Dum Zine Party with TULIPS and So Many Wizards

The dream of the 90’s is alive in Portland Echo Park. Every time I venture into the hipster-friendly, conveniently gentrified, Echo Park, I can’t help but reference this Portlandia bit. It just rings so true here. A print media zine release party, conveniently located next to a record store; the only thing missing from the night is to manifest an outright time warp into the golden decade of the 90’s was the glaring of smart phones screens, which lit up the faces that lined the dimly lit, iconic Echo, smack dab in the heart of Echo Park. I arrived slightly after the live zine readings around 7 PM. I was just in time for Echo Park’s own TÜLIPS to commence the musical portion of Dum Dums Zine release party, which also served as the official LA Zine Week kick off. Upon entering, I darted straight to the bar. The Echo stands as one of the only venues where you can order a beer and a slice of pizza, which is delivered from the delectable Two Boots Pizza right next door. Tennis System debuts new song and split 7″ at Amoeba Records

LA is known for it’s large amount of up and coming bands. One of these bands, although not originally from LA, goes by the name of Tennis System. Tennis System started in Washington D.C. with front man Matty Taylor and has gone through a couple line ups. This current line up which includes Hector Gomez on drums and Zach Bilson on bass, is by far the best line up Tennis System has seen. Tennis System released their album “Technicolour Blind” back in October of last year and have since taken LA by storm. Being named LA weekly’s number 3 band to keep an eye out for in 2015 most definitely says something. They are on my personal top 5 LA bands. Last night, Tennis System played a show at Amoeba Record Shop in Hollywood. The show was a special event where a limited amount of 7” splits were given to the first 200 in attendance. I’m not sure they gave away all 200 of those records, although there was a decent turn out for this special show.
