The NSA Announces May 18th Sanders Fundraiser at Regent Theater

New Sound Alliance and Janky Smooth are proud to announce A Fundraiser for Bernie Sanders on May 18th at The Regent Theater. The show will take place just a couple weeks prior to the California primary on June 7th. This is the first event by the newly launched political action group, The New Sound Alliance. The NSA seeks to unite the music community in organizing bands, labels, promoters, managers and publicists to organize our voices in an effort to engage young voters and activists. The fundraiser for Senator Sanders will feature The Garden, Kim and the Created, Death Hymn Number 9, The Birth Defects and all star punk rock legends, Punk Rock Karaoke that features members of Circle Jerks/Bad Religion, The Dickies and Adolescents as YOUR backing band while you sing punk rock classics on the stage of The Regent Theater in Downtown L.A. There has been much discussion around it’s usage as an adjective to describe music and people. It has sparked passionate and sometimes violent debate. The spirit behind what the word actually means has existed since time itself and once the word became marketable and defined by a specific sound, the word changed from describing a frame of mind and into describing a genre… or… a product, if you will. And there are very few individuals or businessmen that handle the legacy of this product better than Mark and Shawn Stern at BYO Records, specifically through their record label and of course, the annual summit called Punk Rock Bowling. Very few statements sound sillier than someone stating “That’s not punk”. Because once punk has been defined through a specific paradigm, it ceases to be the thing that it was when Iggy first bent over backwards or Darby first watched people move in a circle or Joey put on his first leather jacket. Punk Rock Karaoke: Play Music with Punk Legends

If you’ve ever had a fantasy of being a punk rock frontman or woman, you can make your fantasy a reality with Punk Rock Karaoke. Not only can you sing your favorite punk anthems over world class sound systems at world famous clubs around the country but you can do it with punk legends like Greg Hetson (Circle Jerks, Bad Religion) and Stan Lee (The Dickies). Last night Punk Rock Karaoke invaded Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach which has always been a stronghold for hardcore punk in America. The band was incredibly tight last night and most of the aspiring punks that took the mic to play with their heroes sounded pretty fucking good. Even the very small percentage of people who butchered the songs were so fucking bad that it was amazingly entertaining. Just like any Karaoke night, singers signed up on a list before the set started and some signed up after a few servings of liquid courage, mid set. Songs on the list included, Nervous Breakdown, Bloodstains, Fuck Armageddon, Gigantor, Astro Zombies, Bikeage, and California Uber Alles, just to name a few.
