My relationship with Transcendental Meditation began with my admiration for the cinema of auteur filmmaker, David Lynch. For the longest time, Eraserhead was my favorite movie. I was so in love with David Lynch’s directing style that I decided to attend a Q & A that he was participating in but not the focal point of. The focal point of the Q & A was Dr. Norman Rosenthal, who was discussing his book Transcendence: Healing and Transformation Through Transcendental Meditation. Dr. Rosenthal spoke about the psychological, emotional, professional, and health benefits of TM while David Lynch gave us his take on the creative benefits. Words: Danny Baraz Photos: Dirt Junior If I HAD to list one musical influence that could encapsulate my love of listening to, creating, performing, critiquing and obsessing on music, without hesitation or pause, I would tell you Mike Patton. Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk, and Lovage. His dynamic vocals, the musicians he plays with, the uniqueness of his sound, his twisted lyrics and commentary and the prolific nature of his creative output are everything I aspire to as an artist and the measuring stick to which I compare all others. To say I am a bit biased on this subject would be an understatement. Faith No More were a part of a musical awakening for me and were also the gateway to discovering my favorite Mike Patton fronted band, Mr. Bungle. I was 14 years old when Faith No More’s, The Real Thing was released. I had never yet and still to this day, heard anything like it. Tetema- Geocidal: A new project by Mike Patton and Anthony Pateras

Tetema-The new project from Mike Patton and Anthony Pateras is nothing short of an abstract, conceptual masterpiece. There are no hooks here. This will receive no radio play- except, possibly from the least commercial, college radio stations. This album, “Geocidal”, came directly from the loins of Patton and Pateras with the only desire being to create the most pleasing and haunting sonic landscapes. Patton proves that his virility to plant his musical seed in the least inseminated musical wombs is still alive and well and has been reborn into a child named, Tetema. If I had to reference a Mike Patton influence to paint a picture then I would summon the non-sensical and tangential interludes found in between, inside and around the g spot of Mr Bungle songs. An expansion of a non idea, pulled from a nebulous thought and turned into something substantial . The only track resembling anything like a traditional song structure is the cut, “3-2-1 Civilisation”. This track actually has a verse that is distorted and heavy and is set to a drum and bass like arrangement with the most pleasing bleeps and digital hiccups.
