Silver Lake Perris: Desert Daze 2019

“Do you think Silver Lake is a ghost town right now?” I heard someone ask during my three day camping trip at Desert Daze. The thought made me laugh, I’m sure they meant it mockingly, as this festival is LA’s annual scenester oasis, still though, upon really thinking about it, even though I don’t consider myself a part of Los Angeles’ elite hipster psych and garage rock circle, I am an admirer. Those are the people that make East Los Angeles such a beautiful destination to bar hop and hear live music. And who knows what came first, the people or the music. The time has finally come. The greatest festival of 2019 for Southern Californians is Desert Daze 2019 and we have been chosen by the gods of all psychedelia to bestow two tickets upon a lucky winner. This year’s festival is marked by even more expansion than last year both in magnitude and genre with hip hop legends Wu Tang Clan playing the same lineup as punk rock legends Devo. Burger Boogaloo and Total Trash Productions have achieved the unthinkable, they’ve outdone themselves yet again after having outdone themselves last year with Iggy Pop headlining their Boogaloo. As Northern (and really, all of) California’s premiere garage punk festival, this year’s Boogaloo features none other than Devo, breaking their hiatus, punk rock originators The Damned, The Mummies (the festival’s headliner 2 years ago), and the return of Long Beach electro-punk legends Le Shok.
