Something Old and Something New: Ceremony at the Constellation Room
Words by: Danny Ryan Photos by: Albert Licano Ceremony has had the most drastic shift in sound and style out of any band that I have witnessed in my lifetime, especially within the modern hardcore punk genre. While this growth has been controversial during many periods of their career, their performance in the Constellation Room of the OC Observatory has demonstrated their success in bridging the divisions between these fanbases. This is a goal that is quite difficult to achieve in the rabid following of hardcore, but the crowd’s explosive reactions to their post-punk influenced songs such as the newest single “Vanity Spawned by Fear” prove how successful they are breaking down these boundaries. The Constellation Room shifted from a battleground of flailing bodies to a lively disco dancefloor throughout the night, never losing momentum throughout their long and expansive set. Blasting into classic tracks that would please anyone in their crowd with a specific preference, they certainly attracted skeptical fans into falling in love with their vast discography over the years. As the band has grown rapidly in their visions throughout their history, their fans are growing alongside them throughout this journey. related content: When Quant Gets Core: Home

Self Improvement Shoegaze: Chastity Belt at the Constellation Room
If you start feeling like you’re vibrating a little higher or showing yourself a little more compassion after listening to Chastity Belt, the spell worked and you’re going to be fine. There’s a weight to the words that come from Julia Shapiro’s mouth. That’s not to put the weight of my mental health on lyrics in a song but you listen to Different Now there’s a call for self-care and patience with the problems of your life. There are these subtle complexities weaved into the fabric of The Process to pair lyrics about lying to your therapist and heavy riffs. It’s like if Fleetwood could have listened then maybe things would be been a lot easier on the tour bus. related content: Silver Lake Perris: Desert Daze 2019 Did I mention the finger-tapping solo’s? Call Yngwie Malmsteen and let him know there’s a new sheriff in town. I always liked a finger tap, it’s one of those ones where if you screw up once your band probably doesn’t want you trying again embarrassing them like I thought you said you could shred? related content: Who Is Orville Peck? Gothboiclique Represent: Lil Tracy at the OC Observatory
Words and Photos by: Maggie St. Thomas On Friday night, March 29th, in the Constellation Room at The Observatory in Santa Ana, rap artists Lil’ Raven and Lil’ Tracy headlined the much-anticipated show. Lil’ Raven, a rapper from Virginia, included “Channel Drip”, “You Might”, and “5 Bands” in his set. He was fun, alive, and gave lots of love to his fans –whether it was taking photographs with everyone after the show or shaking hands and giving love to the crowd while on stage during his set. After Lil’ Raven performed, Lil’ Tracy was introduced to a packed venue with everyone’s flashlights on their phones shining from the crowd. The stage was packed with Lil’ Tracy peeps and fans alike throughout his entire set. He opened up with “Your Favorite Dress”, which caused immediate frenzy among the entire crowd, and then went into “Pictures”. “Hands up, Everybody! Hands up!” he shouted as he hyped the entire crowd. He honored the memory of his late counterpart and friend, Lil’ Peep, whom he once shared that very stage with. Then, after kicking the DJ booth and slamming his microphone on the mixing table, he covered a few of Lil’ Peep’s songs, including “Witchblades”, and ended the night performing

California Surf Rock Summer Night: Corners,The Abigails & The Pesos
There is a distinct sound to Southern California’s Beach Goth/Surf Rock scene that you will not find or hear as authentically anywhere else but here and especially in the Constellation Room at the Observatory in Orange County. Nothing can quite compare to the strung out guitar strokes that resemble and embody the sounds of our ocean waves. Yan Pessino, the lead singer of The Pesos, indoctrinated us into this show with his haunting vocals. Intoning, “hola, hola, mi amora, hey, hey my, my sweet desire”. He set the mood through melody. The tune, “Hey, hey” romanticized & roused the crowd to dance & sway to the rhythm of this seaside ballad. The Pesos continued their sweet sounding set with the song, “Cumdown”, glamorizing a youthful yet blue drug induced lifestyle. The girls held hands & twirled their long beachy waves & high waisted shorts and boys nodded in their shaggy surfer cuts & band tees. Popping open a few blue ribbons was a successful way to transition to The Abigails. Alcohol might actually be the perfect metaphor for this band. Warren Thomas was stoked as he began the bands set by telling us “I want to fucking party with you, that’s what
